Isn’t it strange that just when we desperately need to do something wonderful for ourselves, we find it the hardest to do?
When you’re stiff and achy, you need a good stretch. But you’re too tired so you collapse on the couch instead.
When you’re really hungry, your body needs a healthy fix. Of course it’s then we reach for the junk food.
When you’re desperate for a break from the house, you find yourself urging your husband to go for that round of golf he’s been talking about.
For many women, it’s just who we are. It’s in our nature to nurture. We feel better when those around us are taken care of, even if it means we don’t get to do the things we want.
But we all have our limits. When your battery gets low, you have to plug into what recharges you.
There’s no glory in martyrdom for moms.
Taking care of yourself makes you happier. And when you’re happier, your family is happier, too. It’s a delightful circle of goodness that goes around to everyone you touch.
What recharges YOU?
Working out at the gym? A day of shopping? A visit to the spa?
A good chat with a friend? Time alone? Time with a furry friend, canine, equine, feline or otherwise?
Facebook? A dip in the pool? Immersing yourself in blogs, magazines, TV, or a good book?
Working, even? Or just crossing things off your to-do list?
All of these things sound good to me right now! My battery is low. How is yours? Maybe you and I can each pick one thing and do it. There. I give you permission to do something for yourself. You’re worth it!
The point is, when you know you need to do something, take the time to do it. It doesn’t have to be right at this moment. But it should be soon. Pencil it in. Line up the babysitter or get your husband’s commitment to watch the kids.
And then plug yourself in.
Recharge when you need it, whether it’s something you do once a month, once a week, or every day.
